Procedure for car registration
Annual Renewal
  • Before registration it is important to check for fines.
  • Go to Dubai Police Headquarters web site at https://www.dubaipolice.gov.ae and select Online Services.
  • In Online Services select Traffic Fines Enquiry, and Payment.
  • You will need you car registration number and index letter or Driver Licence number to find out how much money, if any, you owe in fines.
  • Check both the car AND your Driver Licence for fines.
  • It is advisable that you carry a little extra cash over the fine amount displayed, when you go to renew your registration.
  • An ATM is located just outside the main door of the Reception, if you need it.
  • The following documents are required for vehicle registration:

  • Original Insurance Certificate (in Arabic) valid for 13 months
  • Original passport with the UAE residence visa along with one photocopy of the same
  • For companies, the original trade license along with one photocopy of the same
  • For registration of vehicles from the 3rd year, a Tasjeel (Vehicle Passing Certificate) is required.
  • In case of re-registration vehicle registration card (Mulkia) is required
  • Expatriates require a No Objection letter for their sponsor (Varies form Emirate to Emirate)
    1. They must have a company trade license in the emirate of Dubai

    3. They must have accommodation in the emirate of Dubai, in which case:
    4. Bring a lease authorized by the official authorities of the property
    5. Bring an electricity or telephone bill as proof of accommodation
  • For holders of a residence visa in another emirate or GCC citizens without documents of identification, either of these two conditions must be tru

Please Note
    For Individuals

  • The buyer and the seller must be present for the registration. In case the owner of the vehicle cannot be present, these documents should be available
  • Contract of purchase from an authorized showroom in Dubai. If the showroom is in another emirate, it must be stamped by the traffic department of that emirate
  • Power of attorney issued from any court in the state is required to identify the authorized representative
  • For Companies

    The purchase must be authorized on a stamped and signed letterhead

Tips
    To avoid confusion and additional paperwork, please observe these tips

  • Ensure that the particulars registered in the application, the customs certificate, the contract and the insurance match the particulars in the passport
  • New vehicles are exempt from the vehicle passing test for two years from the date of registration
  • General transport vehicles and learning vehicles must have third party insurance as well as driver’s insurance
  • Rental cars and taxis must have full insurance
